Abstract Figurative Sessions

Abstract and figurative art are two distinct styles of art that share some similarities but also have some significant differences.

Figurative art is an art form that depicts recognizable objects or figures in a realistic or representational manner. For example, a portrait of a person, a still life of fruit, or a landscape scene are all examples of figurative art. The purpose of figurative art is often to represent the subject matter accurately and to communicate a message or feeling through recognizable forms.

Abstract art, on the other hand, is non-representational and does not depict recognizable objects or figures. Instead, abstract art is characterized by its use of color, line, shape, and texture to create a visual language unrelated to any subject matter. Abstract art can be created through various techniques, from spontaneous gestural marks to highly calculated geometric forms.

Despite their differences, abstract and figurative art share a common link: both seek to express something beyond their surface appearance. Figurative art uses recognizable forms to represent a more profound meaning or message, while abstract art creates visual language to evoke emotion, sensation, or thought.

In abstract figurative art, the artist combines elements of both styles to create a work that is both recognizable and non-representational. This can be achieved by using figurative forms as a starting point and then abstracting them through distortion, fragmentation, or simplification techniques. The resulting artwork can be interpreted in multiple ways, as the recognizable forms interact with the abstract elements to create a unique visual experience.

In summary, abstract and figurative art are two distinct styles of art that share a common link in their desire to express something beyond their surface appearance. Abstract figurative art combines elements of both styles to create a unique visual experience that is both recognizable and non-representational.
